I have been made to realise that Kelantan is not as what is being potrayed in the BN-controlled media. They have made much more progress in the last 7years. As we can see PAS’ changing attitude, shedding its ulama image, engaging non-Muslims openly, the administration of Kelantan state is somewhat in a way better than those of Pahang for example. The people there, being a majority Malay-Muslim, still maintains harmony among its minority non-Muslims. For comparison, there has been no Hindu or Buddhist temple being demolished in that state, compared to their counterparts in Selangor and KL. So much for Malaysia Truly Asia.
Yes, Kelantan is backwards in terms of economic strength. You may find it hard to get a professional job there. But they are certainly maintaining the racial and religious harmony, staying true to the teachings of Islam which advocates peace and tolerance. The people in Kelantan itself are not worried or complaining of not having alot of money, they are more moderate and are satisfied, grateful of what they have.
Maybe that is the price that we are paying for chasing wealth; selfish, losing our racial ties, losing the family values, playing the race/religion cards just to be popular and get more votes from racist group of people so that they can continue to scourge the money from our national reserves. Maybe that is the price we have to pay.

Since last August, the taps in an estate in Kajang have run dry forcing
its residents to bathe with murky water from a nearby reservoir and
quench their thirst on the kindness of others.
Relating
their ordeal, M Pedari, 61, said they are forced to use the water from
the reservoir which is ‘unhygienic and exposed’.
For dinking water, the grandmother of six said they have to depend on family and friends who donate mineral water bottles.
This
is how life has been for about 100 families in the Bukit Raja estate
since their water supply was cut off by Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor
Sdn Bhd (Syabas).
They claimed that the supply was cut off upon the urging of a plantation company that wants to evict the families.
In
addition to this, the residents claimed that Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB)
had removed their electricity meters forcing the residents to use
generators and other means to light up their homes.
“We want
our water and electricity supply back. We want the houses they promised
us,” said Pedari when met during a protest outside Menara Tun Razak in
Kuala Lumpur today which houses the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia
(Suhakam).
‘Suhakam head must resign’
However,
Pedari and 70 other residents did not come to the commission for help.
Instead, they demanded the resignation of Suhakam chairperson Abu Talib
Othman.
This
is because Abu Talib is a director of Sime UEP Sdn Bhd which owns
Prominent Acres Sdn Bhd - the company which is allegedly trying to
evict the residents.
Until 1999, the residents were employed by Prominent Acres to work on the rubber and oil palm estates.
As
part of an agreement to terminate their employment, the residents
claimed that they were offered low-cost terrace houses. What was
ultimately offered were low-cost flats and the residents rejected this.
“We feel cheated. When our energy is no longer needed (by the
plantation company), we are kicked out,” said Bukit Raja action
committee chairperson L Gnana Sekaran.
In 2005, Prominent Acres filed two summonses with the Shah Alam sessions court to evict the families.
However,
the residents said this was illegal as the case concerning the terms of
their employment termination is still pending in court.
“We
have lived in the estate all our lives. We don’t want to move out and
this is all we know,” said Pedari’s daughter, M Alagamah, 41, who lives
with her mother.
Alagamah, who works a salesperson, also accused the company of hiring ‘gangsters’ to intimidate the residents.
Last Tuesday, she said some 50 men had come to the estate with bulldozers and tore down about 20 abandoned houses in the area.
“But they will not win. We will stand our ground and get what was promised to us,” she stressed.
Conflict of interest
Last September, the residents had turned to Suhakam but were told that their case will not be investigated.
Commenting on this, Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) vice-president Sivarasa Rasiah said this involves a conflict of interest.
“It
is not possible for the commission to act independently and without
bias, as long as a director of Sime UEP also serves as its
chairperson,” added the opposition leader who was also present at the
protest.
The disgruntled residents had turned to PKR after exhausting all other avenues.
During
the 30-minute protest, residents brandished placards calling on Abu
Talib to resign and denouncing Syabas for cutting their water supply.
They also handed a memorandum on the matter to Suhakam commissioner Khalid Ibrahim.
Abu Talib and Prominent Acres officials could not be reached for comment.

Former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who is on a crusade against war
crimes and warmongers, has been accused of being a war criminal
himself.
The
Police Watch and Human Rights Committee (PWHRC) said his hands are
‘stained with the blood’ of the victims in the March 2001 Kampung Medan
clashes.
The committee was responding to the formation of the
Kuala Lumpur War Crimes Commission and War Crimes Tribunal mooted by
the Perdana Global Peace Foundation headed by Mahathir.
In a
statement today, PWHRC’s legal adviser P Uthayakumar said while the
formation of the august bodies is to be lauded, it is however
‘embarrassing’ that they are led by Mahathir.
“It would be six
years on March 8 this year, when all of a sudden, peaceful Malaysia
witnessed the killing of six and more than 100 Indian Malaysians
seriously injured,” he said.
“It has been 2,167 days since
this tragedy but there has only been pin drop silence. Despite scores
of appeal, there has been no royal commission of inquiry, inquest,
Parliamentary White Paper or anyone prosecuted for the crimes,” he
added.
Uthayakumar also cited an International Herald Tribune news report in 2001, which claimed that the police did not act when one victim was being beaten to death.
He
said an urgent appeal was made to Mahathir, who was then prime
minister, to bring an end to the violence but he “allowed it to
continue for 15 days.”
“With a complete media blackout,
Mahathir was successful in turning this incident into ‘racial clashes’
when it was in fact a racial attack,” he alleged.
“If it was
racial clashes, how come almost all the victims were on one side i.e.
Indian Malaysians? In short, there was a full-scale cover-up by
Mahathir,” he added.
Uthayakumar
also claimed that the victims were never compensated while scores of
police reports on the incident were not investigated.
“Mahathir
got off ‘scot free’ after having been behind this ‘mini genocide’. But
today, he has gone international to condemn war criminals in other
countries when his hands are stained with blood in his country,” he
said.
The government has dismissed the allegation that the Kampung Medan clashes were premeditated.

Signs of election fever
And the best indication of all time came from a friend of mine
the source witnessed what could have been the most evident prove that we can have, pity she didn’t take any pics :p kekeke
A photocopy shop was seen photocopying a large and bulky document ; Senarai Pengundi Daerah Sepang ,(or was it Daftar Pemilih..) sent by Wanita UMNO Sepang. Front page has this logo of SPR with the word "Sulit".
Those who are 21 , get yourself registered as voters
My bet, it will be anytime from August - November. Might be December worst case. Raya is in October right? Guess the PM can travel whole country doing election campaign with his new private jet.
note : From now on I shall write and practice to write as a professional blogger rather a kid trying to use his Friendster profile.
PAS will be launching a new "club" under its roof. While all this years the party, that once said that a vote for them is a ticket to heaven, has been keeping a strict conservative image and approach of Islam, it now plans to radically change its portrayal of their image. PAS few years back made a big surprise when the members voted non-ulamas into office, a first in PAS history. They started to engage professionals and educated generation, a toned-down version, to engage in debates rather than confrontation, and obviously, to get the much needed support from the non-Malay community.
There is a high ranking PAS official, Abdullah Tan, in Kelantan. A Chinese Muslim who manages the PAS’ effort to attract Chinese votes. There is also another branch,
Kelab Penyokong PAS pusat ,who’s majority members are Chinese and is being lead by one Hu Pang Chaw.
And now we will be having another branch of their "Kelab Penyokong" , the Indian chapter. Kelab Penyokong PAS Kaum India will be officially launched coming this Feb 15 @ Markas Tarbiyah PAS Pusat, Taman Melewar, KL.
Yeap, you heard me right , they want Indians to come and give them support as well. And they want Chinese too. While it may be a good initiative to foster racial and religious ties, their intention does cast doubt. Im sure its just for their political benefit.
And made me think last time, why would any Chinese support PAS in their "fan club"… now the same Question i threw for the Indian fan club formation… why and who? While the "why" seems to be obvious (read: ELECTION COMING SOON) , the "who" did baffle me. Digging into would reveal who is heading such a club.
None other than our Keadilan fellas. The Indian factions in Keadilan are trying to throw their support for PAS, obviously for political alliance and self benefit. Reportedly it seems that it was formed on initiative by N.Gobalakrishnan , well known and influential Keadilan member.
My say ; Good attempt at fostering racial ties and understanding, but with wrong intention and platform.Sell your race for your own benefit.
Mohd Ezam Mohd Nor, a former detainee under OSA, today launched his new book: "Freedom of Information in Malaysia"
in front of Bukit Aman. He said during Mahathir’s time, only one victim
came down under OSA (it was him), but during this administration, OSA
was used to investigate four persons over the toll concession agreement.
The best thing is the irony behind the launching venue, in front of Bukit Aman. Its like shouting "Long live Mahen! " in a graveyard gathering… ^_^
-_-!
About
a dozen people were arrested by the police in front of Puchong’s IOI
shopping mall in the fourth demonstration in just as many weeks against
the sharp highway toll increase.
Organised
by Protes - a coalition of opposition parties, trade unions, civil
society and student groups - the demonstration, which began about 4pm
today, drew about 1,000 people.
Among those arested were key leaders of opposition parties including
PAS’ Dr Hatta Ramli and Salahuddin Ayub, PKR’s Tian Chua and R Sivarasa
and DAP’s Ronnie Liu.
Most of the major access roads to Puchong, a southern Kuala Lumpur
suburb which sits in the centre of several highways, require motorists
to pay toll.
The IOI shopping mall is about 1km away from the Damansara-Puchong
Highway (LDP), which registered the highest increase - from RM1 to
RM1.60 per trip.
Two rounds of arrests
A group of protestors were attempting to march to the highway when the first round of arrests were made at about 4.45pm.
About 300 demonstrators later regrouped opposite the mall and continued the protest by chanting anti-toll hike slogans.
DAP assemblyperson Teng Chang Khim was seen negotiating with the head of the 100-strong police party, Subang’s OCPD Fuad Talib.
At about 5.30pm, more arrests were made, this time involving Portes
leader Hatta. Also held was former Internal Security Act detainees,
Mohamad Ezam Mohd Nor, who is now head of a corruption watchdog NGO.
Those arrested were trucked to Puchong’s police station, which is about five minutes away from the protest site.
In reponse, a crowd of 500 protestors gathered outside the police station to demand the release of those arrested.
About
70 riot police arrived at about 6pm to bloster the police presence and
they formed a cordon around the police station. The riot police
came equipped with a water-cannon truck.
It is believed that about 15 people were arrested though this is yet
to be confirmed. A number of those arrested today were also nabbed by
the police at the third protest two weeks ago.
Secret toll deal
Two Sundays ago, the police swooped in to prevent anti-toll
protestors from gathering near the Cheras-Kajang Highway Batu 11 toll
booth and arrested 21 people.
Eyewitnesses have accused the police of using excessive force when making the arrests.
Several protestors claimed that they were victims of police abuse while the Human Rights Commission (Suhakam) is deliberating on whether to probe the incident.
In constrast, the first two demonstrations - Subang’s Sunway City on Jan 7 and
Gombak’s KL-Karak toll booth on Jan 14 - went off without any incident.
Effective Jan 1, the toll rates for five highways in the Klang
Valley saw an increase between 20 to 60 percent. There is also much
disgruntlement over the government’s reluctance to make public the
highway concession agreements.
Apart from LDP, the other highways affected by the toll hike are the
Shah Alam Highway, Cheras-Kajang Highway, Kuala Lumpur-Karak Highway
and the Guthrie Corridor Expressway.
Yes, come Visit malaysia 2007, our best of Malaysians are in prisons, jails, or house arrest.
Toll Protest #4 @ IOI Mall, Puchong 4th Feb 2007

Tian Chua arrested, not long after a deal was struck between the
police and him to have allow the people to gather for a few minutes.

At least a dozen were arrested.

The police attempted to bar photographers and tv crew from taking
visuals. This Chinese daily photographer was literally chased around
but he held on to his camera.
